Our Ministries
Much of the ministry is carried out informally by members of the congregation. They see needs in the church and community and seek to address them as God enables.
Bible Studies
God's Word is the basis for everything we do at East Gate Presbyterian Church. For this reason, we have committed ourselves to study God's Word. Studies for men and women are held each week. Our men's study meets each Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall (and is often followed by a hearty breakfast at a local
restaurant). Women's studies are held on various nights during the week from August through May. Bible studies for both men and women are also held August through May.
A ministry of encouragement
is especially directed to widows in the church. Frequent phone
calls and visits and love shown in other ways help the widows
through the difficulties of bereavement.
Many in the church are active in visiting and caring for the sick both at home and in the hospital. It is not unusual for one of the pastors to call on a member in the hospital and find other members of the congregation there encouraging and ministering to the person. Some have also provided transportation for outpatient or doctor's appointments in more distant areas, such as Salisbury, MD and Baltimore.
East Gate Presbyterian
is committed to supporting the work of evangelism through long
and short-term missionary service. We currently support eight
missionaries on a monthly basis. It is our goal to increase our
giving and participation to missions as God enables us.
The church deacons oversee the mercy ministry of the church, but they are also very active in the maintenance of the facilities. During floods in the area a few years ago the deacons assisted some members whose homes had been affected. When Houston, TX experienced a flood, a special plea was made for help with victims. People in the church generously responded to this need.
Van Ministry
Children from the Long Neck community are brought to East Gate each Sunday to join us for Sunday School. Our van ministry is staffed by volunteers from our congregation.
Pioneer Club
Pioneer Club is a weekly children's club for
children age 4 through sixth grade. Each week
children study God's Word, work on skill building
crafts and activities, sing and make new friends.
Pioneer Club provides a fun, safe atmosphere for
children to learn about God. Pioneer Club meets each
Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Youth Group
East Gate youth group meets each Wednesday from
6:30-8:00 p.m. at the church (click
here for directions). Each youth meeting
includes a time of Bible study, prayer, fun games
and activities and snacks. The goal of East Gate
Youth is to introduce young people to Jesus Christ,
to help them grow in spiritual maturity and to
enable them to lead others to Christ.
Group members have the opportunity to make new
friends and interact with Christian adults who care
about them. Group leaders have also incorporated
into the group's structure service to others.
Whether it's visiting the elderly at a nursing home
or raking the leaves of someone who is unable, East
Gate Youth seeks to help those who are in need.
Special activities are also a part of group life.
Baseball games, picnics, swimming and group retreats
are some of the other activities East Gate Youth
take part in together.
Our Women in the Church
(WIC) program addresses numerous concerns locally and overseas.
They arrange for meals for the sick and when there is a death
in the family. They also encourage the personal development and
growth of the women in the church and meet periodically with women
from other churches in the presbytery.
An exercise program meets regularly at Hayes Henry Hall (our fellowship hall) during the week. It is open to people in the community as well as to members of the church.
